Marikka's Social Event – Tuesday, February 10th: The Bluegrass Branch YMG hosted a social event at Marikka’s in Lexington to watch the UK Men’s Basketball Game versus LSU. Attendees enjoyed a night of socializing with other civil engineering professionals and cheered UK on for the win!
Engineering Day – Saturday, February 28th: The Bluegrass Branch YMG assisted with the ASCE booth at Engineering Day on the University of Kentucky’s campus. The event was a huge success this year with an estimated attendance of over 2,500 people. Our team of volunteers helped lead two hands-on activities with the kids, building dams and earthquake-resistant towers out of Legos. We also had demonstrations on watersheds, bridges, and landfills and had giveaways for the kids and their parents.
Vaughn Branch Stream Clean-up – Sunday, May 31st: The Bluegrass Branch YMG hosted a stream clean up in cooperation with Bluegrass Greensource and Friends of Versailles Road on the west side of Lexington. The team met at Vaughn’s Branch, a tributary to Wolf Run, and assisted with removing invasive bush honeysuckle, tagging newly planted trees, and picking up trash along the stream.
Talon Winery Social Event – Thursday, September 18th: A night of wine tasting, snacks, and self-guided winery tours with networking opportunities between civil engineering professionals.
Church Under the Bridge Service Event – Sunday, November 23rd: A volunteering effort alongside a local charity that feeds Lexington's homeless every Sunday.
Pope Villa (Latrobe House) Tour – Tuesday, December 9th: A tour of Lexington’s historic Pope Villa (also known as the Latrobe House), a home designed by America’s first professional architect Benjamin Henry Latrobe. The Pope Villa was built in 1811 and is currently being restored by the Blue Grass Trust for Historic Preservation.
